Professional Freelance Comic Scripter Looking for paid work

Post by Ruyei »

Hello all.

My name is Robert Finch, you may know me as Ruyei on this site. I have been scripting for comics for 9 years and writing for over a decade, and I have completed and work on multiple comic projects both of my own creation as well as developing the ideas of others. Being professional in my dealings I attract a fair number of collaborators, including graphic novel and one shot opportunities that I landed when I opened myself for business last Summer.

This summer I'm dedicating my time once again on top of my usual life duties to freelance writing, and although of course scripting is my most relevant skill (due to the audience here) let me explain my profession. I write scripts, prose, and even game scripts on occasion...but on top of that there's one thing that's foremost on my mind as I offer my services. Collaboration. To explain further, a big part of my business comes from working professionally as...what you may call an editor. A client may be referred to me with the goal of writing an autobiography, a promotional pamphlet, or any other form of fiction, and I work with that person to make it happen. I currently have one client for example who wants to write about his experience a CEO for a pharmaceutical company and an incident that was very important in his life. I don't write the story for him, even when I write my own drafts. Instead I take the goal, and I help this man plan, write, and over-all create.

Say you have a story in mind, I can write it (or help you write it). I can consult on craft, many elements of craft ranging from planning an issue or series, manipulating ones own self to meet deadlines, or even simply to bounce ideas off of to refine your concept and story. I am not here to take money and do whatever I want, it will be YOUR project. Even if your own ideas are just on the drawing board, I can help you expand them into something full-fledged. Even if you choose for me to script, the work will still be one hundred percent under your control, but ideologically and physically.

Through my portfolio you'll see wide variety of genres as well as scripting style, thus promoting my versatility. I've worked on everything from historical fiction to jungle fantasy and through my research hours I can adapt and learn from any subject you'd prefer. Above all, as a writer, I consider myself a concept guy. On my own projects I like to experiment with new worlds (like a fantasy world about winged people living on islands fighting for survival against giant reptiles) or flipping concepts on their heads (Like a boy wishing for superpowers and becoming progressively more and more demonic as well as powerful). I can provide that creativity and help you tap into your own! You can find my portfolio here to view https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ntr67c0ctgxu ... LSQAa?dl=0, and if you have any questions I can be reached at robert-finch@comcast.net

Now for my price. I work at 15$ a page, with 20$ an hour for other work to compensate me for meetings (Skype, phone, or otherwise) research for projects, and any other service you may require from editing of your own scripts to the composition of writing documents such as character bios. Why am I charging? This is an argument that has resonated throughout the forums regarding artists charging for what many consider a hobby, but the true difference between paying a collaborator and not paying a collaborator is that when you offer compensation you are literally buying time. As in, rather than spend my time making the cash I need to survive in other ways, through supporting me you buy my free time that I can use to work on your projects. The price I have listed is therefore a support for me to write rather than myself trying to price gouge. It is slightly higher than what others may charge for scripting services, but given that I do this regularly enough that I consider this a profession, I think you are getting far more than what the value of your money would be normally. I am prompt, an excellent and consistent communicator, and most importantly I love to write and to help others craft their own projects.

You can contact me at robert-finch@comcast.net. From there I can provide Skype, phone number, Facebook, or a username from an IM service of your choice so that we can discuss our potential partnership. I generally limit such meetings to one hour, but I am very flexible in not only the scheduling of that hour, but also extending it should you have any pressing questions that need answered.

For now, for those of you experiencing Summer, enjoy the warm weather.
Sincerely,
Robert Finch/Ruyei

I also specialize in working with foreigners, so those of you who have shaky English or otherwise have difficulty writing natural sounding English...I'm your man! My first work was editing third-language English to be more natural sounding, even if that work is already drawn.

I tried to go to your site for more info and for some reason the link was not working for me. May very well be my phone, not sure, but I just wanted to let you know. And one of these days I would love to take you up on that free session. Also thank you for all of your feedback lately :)

Might be your phone, the link is to a dropbox site, otherwise known as a cloud application. I don't have a proper website yet, but I am commissioning one and it should be ready by the end of the Summer. Check on your computer and see if you're still having trouble. It works fine when I click on it.

I look forward to a session with you if you decide to give it a shot!
Best,

I also do consulting, as I am fairly experienced when it comes to the creation of independent comics. Also if you have a question that's easy to answer I have no problem being a good Samaritan and giving you advice. Comics are not only part of my income, but also my passion which I love to share.
