Artist looking for (co-)author for a sci-fi comic

As the subject states, I'm an artist looking for, either a writer with a ready-made script, or someone to co-author a story with that I will then illustrate.

I'm interested only in sci-fi projects, and I'd like for it to lean towards hard sci-fi, though it doesn't necessary have to meet the standards set by purists. Basically, just something like Star Trek (sans the religious mumbo-jumbo in DS9), Aliens, Predator, Terminator, etc. as opposed to Star Wars or Superman.

This isn't a paid project, and the final product will be released under a Creative Commons license online, though selling hard copies of the finished product is a possibility.

I'm a serious artist, and I set very high standards for my own work, so I'd expect any potential collaborators to be the same. If the project is to be attempted, then whatever is produced will have to be at least of the same quality as the commercial work produced by major publishing houses like Dark Horse, DC, etc. So if you know your writing isn't up to snuff, don't toss your hat in the ring.

I know I've set perhaps unrealistically high standards, but this is something I'm going to commit at least a year of my life to, and I don't believe in half measures. And I'd rather set ridiculously high standards and fail than succeed in mediocrity. So there you have it...

So if by chance there's a brilliant sci-fi writer cruising these forums who wants to hook up with an equally good and uncompromising artist, I'd love to get in touch.

Hey,

Your ad is interesting, but I have a couple of quick questions. Do you envision this as a web comic, a comic book series, or a graphic novel? Is there any online portfolio you have that I would be able to see? I don't doubt your artistic ability, but seeing the style is fairly important.

good day to you

I'm currently working on a fantasy webcomic with an artist, publishing a page each week.

I think I have a concept that you might like, and I'd appreciate it if you could get in touch. I'd send you a direct email, but you haven't left any contact information.

I'd also appreciate seeing your portfolio to help me figure out if my concept would work well with your style, or if I should come up with another one.

I'd also like to throw my hat into the ring here.

I've been working on stuff closer to Superman style sci-fi for awhile now and I would love to do some hard sci-fi.

If you would like to see some samples of my work I would love to get in contact.

If you're still looking, I've been doing working on some pre-production material for an action/comedy sci-fi eBook that I think could work well on a longer, episodic comic form.

You can contact me at bryce@ll-dd.co or @brycas on Twitter. I'm interested in writing for sci-fi and a comic could be perfect for the idea I'm developing.

I'd love to see some of your style and collaborate.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick response to some of the current inquiries:

What format will the final product be in? What length are you shooting for?
I haven't really decided that yet. I'm leaning more towards a one-shot, primarily because a serial would take longer to develop, and the speed at which I'd need to produce artwork may not be compatible with my current day job.

However, I'm open to anything as long as the story is good. E.g. I wasn't envisioning a weekly comedy web comic, but if the content is really awesome, I would be willing to make it work

Do you have a story concept already?
Nothing concrete, no. I've been taking notes over the past few years, just jotting down some possible plot points, sci-fi concepts, ideas about a setting for potential stories, emerging technologies, etc., but not much beyond that.

Can we see samples of your artwork?
Honestly, I've never done any comic-book styled artwork before. I'm primarily a web developer and web/graphic designer by trade (logos, magazine ads, book covers, albums, clothing, posters, skateboards and other merch). And while I've done some illustration, it's not my main area of expertise.

However, I'm a quick study, so I'm confident I can make the transition to comic illustration without any problems. The main issue that exists, realistically, is that it'll probably take me a lot longer to produce the artwork needed than a professional comicbook artist, hence why I'm leaning towards a one-shot.

Anyway, I'd like to post some comic-styled art samples for you guys, but I'm currently being recruited by 2 different companies, so that along with running my own company has been pretty hectic, so it's gonna take me probably at least 2 weeks to get something up that'd be representative of the art quality of the final product. TBH, I wasn't expecting to get this many responses so quickly. So I really apologize for the delay.

What I can post in the meantime is this digital painting I did probably 5~6 years ago when I first got my Wacom tablet. This is the very first thing I drew on my tablet, and it's also my first digital painting. So it took me a while to complete, and it's not perfect, but it gives you some indication of what I can do:

I think what might be a good idea is for you guys to post professional artwork of a style you'd like to have. That way I can see the different styles out there, and I can try to emulate the styles you guys are shooting for.

One last thing. As I said, things are pretty hectic right now, so that's why I haven't been able to respond to your individual messages. But I'll have the time to give this project my full attention in a week or so. I just don't want anyone thinking I'm ignoring them or lost interest in this project already.
