I'm currently working on a lighthearted fantasy adventure novel (in Bulgarian) - half of the action takes place in our world and the other - in an imaginary one, with a steam-punk twist!

Currently looking for an illustrator to do the cover art and some illustrations.

At this point I am preparing a project for the publisher, with a financial plan, in which I have to state the illustrator who will potentially work with me, and his/her rates.

So as a start, if you are interested please send your portfolio and your rates for black & white and color full-page illustrations.

When the illustrator is chosen, I will apply for funding at a culture fund in Bulgaria, and in case the project is approved and I get the financial back-up - the chosen artist will be paid according to prearranged rates to illustrate the book. Of course, English translation will be available for the illustrator.

Note that this is a paid commission, but you only start work if and after I get the funding.

I'm James Lacroix. I'm actually a member of a Steampunk society in my city and I get loads of inspiration for illustration.

I'm in the USA, so these prices are based off that currency.
For a large full-page black and white illustration I charge 25-70 dollars depending on detail. For a color illustration or a cover piece I charge 40-100 dollars depending on detail. The things that will raise the cost of both of these the most is intricate background work, and extra characters.
