This project is a test run to see if this new comic idea will work. I am looking for an artist who is willing to work with no pay but have a good time and test out different ideas. That is not to say that the idea won't take off. I am a huge superhero fan and am looking to make a comic book that will capture people's attentions.
This comic will be based on a vampire slayer. He hunts by night and is a privite eye by day. He is very well built (think Batman) and is around 5 ft 11 in. He is in a relationship and his girlfriend knows that he is a vampire slayer. There is an unexpected twist in the plot and after the first few comics he is killed. As the vampires begin to take over the city, he is resurrected as part man, part vampire on his quest to extinquish the beasts. He stalks the night, killing villans and vampires alike. Eventually he becomes the hunted by mutated humans who have become like superpowered zombies and want to take over the city and eventually the world.
I plan on doing another comic about a superhero similar to superman. The two can work side by side as the ultimate duo.
This is a work in progress. Please post if interested and send me a sample of work to
Batman81497@gmail.com. Thanks

This has become a weird hobby, there are so many of first-time writers looking for artists these days. It is with sadness that I inform you that it is VERY difficult to find artists these days. The thing is that the surest way to find an artist is through offering payment because the truth is that we writers way outnumber the number of artists (And that includes the amateurs). As writers we have to lower our standards and take a different approach. I myself am successful because I've been working with artists for a while and have content I've already done to showcase but the same principles can apply to what I do with my looking for artists posts. Suggest MULTIPLE ideas that cross the genre and thematic gambit. The thing is that no matter how much you love a particular idea it's much more effective to spread your net wide and give potential artists a lot of options. Several times when looking for artists my potential coworkers will pick an idea that I thought of as an afterthought or was less into than another one or two I put at the top of my list. Another option I always allow the artists is to make myself open to recruitment to their own pet projects. A problem with working with free artists is that they often have a limited amount of time to work and thus can get overwhelmed and drop out. You may of course find an artist who actually has a good sense of how much time he has and won't bail, but I find the best way to protect against drop-outs is to keep the artist interested. Giving them their pick of projects and offering to suggest more ideas on demand works, but what I find more successful is to offer to work on a project of the artist's own creation. This is the best way to find a dedicated artist without having five years of experience and work behind him like I do, and I'm only starting to attract others who are very interested in my own projects. Anyway, this is a great way to get experience too! Offer to work on short 10 page projects too because those can be added to your portfolio and a lot of artists are interested in doing those.
It's a tough road out there and if you're into the idea of wanting to do comics for the sake of doing comics and not for just one or two particular ideas then you're on the right track with these tips if you're patience. One thing I recommend is trying out for what I call the Generations project headed by John Oz
http://www.zwol.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5658. I'm being courted by him for his relatively MASSIVE epic project involving reincarnations from across time in a very detailed world building project. He honestly doesn't advertise himself very well but from what he's told me he has a lot of interesting eras and concepts to work with as well as some very skilled artists already lined up to work with him. Two possible deterrents is that anthros make up part of his world population and that there are fantastical elements, but you'll have a lot of lee-way with him. I've already written a story outline for his Renaissance style era and hopefully will end up writing a full length graphic novel for him when I have time, he certainly has a structure you have to conform to but it's not hugely restricting. I recommend you give him a try and get him a writing sample.
Anyway that's all the advice I really have other than to use other sites to look for artists as well (let google be your guide).
