Let me say this, I AM NOT GOING TO PAY YOU RIGHT AWAY.

If all you care about is instant money go look elsewhere because even if I had money to pay you I wouldn't want you to be my artist.

I want the artist that is in this because they want to be part of creating something UNIQUE AND SPECIAL!

About me, I am 31 year old writer, musician, and filmmaker. I studied film and film theory, and have taken all that I learned and over the last 3 years have studied and contemplated how to successfully transfer that knowledge over to the medium of comics.

The story I have been developing for over 7 years (my dream film project that would never get made in a million years haha) is as follows. It's about two slacker guys who gain super/stupid powers. One Pie-U gains the ability to create and project pies out of thin air. The other Ninjackoff! learns he has the power to teleport, but only when he is se xually aroused.

These two regular guys, after many trials and tribulations, eventually learn to use their powers to the fullest and are pitted against a wide variety of situations and villionas...but the real heart of the story is what they discover about themselves and the hidden nature of reality is what is going to make this comic truly unique.

I know the premise sounds ridiculous, and it very much is, but the ridiculousness and the humor that will run throughout this series is the counterbalance to the very dark, realistic, and serious aspects that these characters will encounter.

This is a story that will throw the reader into the deep end right away with the story already in the middle of things. The readers will be faced with superhero characters that they won't know if are good guys or bad guys or just plain insane! However as the series progresses with each issue their back story will start to emerge and the conclusions that the reader makes initially will be blown away.

I have designed the story so that with each new issue you will be able to go back and read previous issues all over again and gain new and deeper insights into what is REALLY happening. It will have tremendous re-reading value to it!

To describe this story I'd say it is like South Park (with it's humor and themes) and Invincible with it's action and characters mixed with lots of philosophy and conspiracies!

But honestly, this is a story about CHARACTERS, about real and flawed humans who through unpredictable circumstances are sent on an evolutionary path that will change the very nature of how they look at their role as human beings and how they see the world around them.

This is a story that will go on for years, but will also be filled with many one-shot stories and smaller plot arcs that will all feed back into a larger and ongoing storyline.

I'm just going to be coc ky here and say this, I am always ahead of the times and pretty much everything that I find to be entertaining, funny, exciting, emotionally rewarding, and dramatic ALWAYS comes around to getting the proper respect and credit it deserves even if it takes a couple years for it to do so. I can recognize greatness when I see it, and I have studied all the greats of both film, writing, and comics. I know the level of genius that my story holds in it and everyone else will eventually discover that for themselves!

I'm not a ego maniac to work with so no worries, I'm just saying wouldn't you want to be part of something that will be remembered and appreciated for years to come? I mean I'm sure when Bob Kane told people about his idea for Batman most people probably didn't think it would a game changer either...I'm not promising that this comic will go on to be THAT successful but I can promise it will be vessel which will get you noticed and WILL get people talking!

So if you're an artist who wants to be working in this field for years to come, I promise this comic will actually get you the attention you seek!

I already have the first two issues done and even "VERY ROUGHLY" drawn out (I cant draw for crap! haha.

This would be 50/50 split on backend profits and if I do want to make this a very profitable venture for the both of us, but that may take a little time, or not. Who knows. I'm not concerned with money right now, I'm just concerned with getting this project off the ground and into high gear...then I'll start doing whatever I can to make YOU glad you took the chance.

Sorry if this was arrogant sounding, but if you knew the whole story and where it was going already I wouldn't be having to write this at all because you would be banging down my door for a chance to get involved on this project on the ground floor. Seriously, I think it's going to be brilliant and I am a very harsh critic of my own work!

Good description, this definitely sounds something...unique haha. However I find that it is VERY hard to find an artist willing to commit to any particular project, although I give you kudos for trying you definitely have something interesting here.

You seem very dedicated to this project so I highly recommend you to save up your money and hire a for-hire artist. Free artists are hard to come by, always in high demand to the extend that they have the pick of what projects they want to do and half the time they want their own stories developed not someone else's. I've worked with free artists for a good five years on and off and I've found that it's easiest to attract artists with multiple ideas suggested (Three is a good number) as well as samples of your work (Linking to another site with an example of your writing would be great). I find that actual comic samples work best, but being that you probably don't have any of those write some script and then link to it. I think doing that will improve your chances of getting an artist but note that it's VERY competitive here. There are a lot of writers competing for a small amount of artists so you have to cater to the artist not demand that your demands be met. Even if you do meet an artist chances are you're going to have to surrender creative control or even worse, the artist will drop out due to lack of dedication.

Suggesting multiple ideas is your best bet to find an artist as well as suggesting short comic pieces to cut your teeth on and build your portfolio. Unless you can pay I would recommend finding a small project to work on first or to work on someone else's project, that's how I got my start. Even if you were a prose writer before-hand I'm sure that like me at your stage in the game you'll have a lot to learn, focus on working on smaller less ambitious projects first. Most of all...have fun! Don't try to make a faustian epic, make something quick and simple! And don't get attached to any one project! It's nigh impossible even at my stage in the game to get a dedicated artist for any one project so if you're only into comic writing for this project and you don't have money it might be a good idea to rethink your priorities. (Though you may get lucky...who knows).

Either way I wish you the best. Comics are very hard to break into even at the amateur level and if you continue in this field there is a tale of tears before your path. But if you persevere and learn from your mistakes you'll find that there's a world of wonder in this craft!

Thanks for the advice. I totally agree with everything you were saying. This is pretty much a fishing attempt where I am looking for a very specific type of fish that doesn't really come around very often So it's a long shot.

Because of all of those listed problems that you mentioned, I have already resorted to drawing it all out myself. Sadly I suck ass as an artist and because of that have never attempted drawing before in my life but I am essentially teaching myself to draw as I go and I am currently trying to show a visual interpretation of how this story can look and feel with a amateurish style, with some ideas more "finished" than others.

However, like I said in the subject line, I'm looking for someone who wants to work on something special...not just someone who wants to work. There are plenty of projects for artists who need a fast payday and plenty of half serious writers who can deal with all the half serious artists.

I'm trying to catch that rare breed of person who is inspired to make lasting art and work on projects that actually have something unique and important to say, not just trying to break into the business or whatever...I mean I would work with a talented artist who just wanted a unique project to work on, but I'm hoping for that long shot of finding the artist equivalent of myself to work with. I know I personally like to see someone with lots of confidence in what they are trying to do and to see someone with some enthusiasm for their art, those who can't handle it or are just looking for a quick buck can pass me by and I'll be grateful for that.

But seriously, I did like your reply and I think all the advice you gave was great. I'm personally just going to keep fishing for the right artist til the day where my own art skills either rise to the level of being good enough to draw it out myself (thats 2 or more years away probably) or whenever I get enough extra money set aside to pay an established professional...but til then I will keep hope that I will find an artist who is willing to do it purely for the love of working on a great story and for the sake of creating (or at least, attempting to) lasting art that people will love.

Not that I'm trying to be hating on those who have bills to pay, just that if the daily annoyances are too challenging or distracting to inspire one to be able to have the energy to put in the hard time now, for the bigger payoff later then I'd rather they be instantly put off by my ad so they can find what they need, and I can find the person that I need to make this project the work of art that it's destined to become. It's my "Stairway to Heaven" of comic projects and I don't expect everyone else to appreciate it til they can see it for themselves...but I know if I was an artist I would be looking for an ad like mine so even though I don't expect it to be mass-appealing to potential comic artists that is okay since I am only looking for a one of a kind artist anyway (i.e.- one of the kind= the right attitude and desire to work on something unique and with a message... not the one-of-a-kind= master artist rembrandt type or something)

PS- I do have the ROUGH first draft of the first issue up at www.flicker.com/fabadventures It's definitely not fully done out because I am too lazy to do that, and also like I said before I just wanted to give the potential artist an idea of where it's going...although some of the pages are much more "complete" in their layout and how they would actually look (in terms of panels, dialogue, framing of action) than others. I also the second issue almost done as well and its done to a higher standard of quality...not exactly "good" but much closer to what the overall pages will actually feel like. I just haven't uploaded it online yet but it is available to any serious potential artist to see. Alright have a great one everyone!

PSS- I do plan on making this series into a very profitable venture for myself and any artist I work with, so any artist should view this as a good investment opportunity for their time and energy as well as being a chance to work on a very adventurous story.

It's VERY hard to get a dedicated artist willing to work on anything for free, most of the dedicated guys ask for money. I do wish you the best of luck though, you have to be VERY patient when looking for an artist and what I do is start as many projects as I can and hope one of the artists can find the time to work on my comic. Sadly even if you do find a good free artist you also have to hope that you find an artist who won't realize that they don't have the time to do such a thing, so it might be for the best that you draw it yourself. I've been thinking of learning to draw myself but honestly I've been receiving enough interest from artists that I really don't need to. The artists I do get though are a little slow though, be prepared for that.
