First of all, I would like to say I think we are all very fortunate to be living in a time where we can connect electronically and collaborate on a subject we are all so very passionate about...

COMICS! - and I would think it's pretty safe to say that anyone looking to break into the industry would like to pad their portfolio a bit. What I'm proposing is to make some comic for comic's sake and if something becomes of it, so be it. I've been working on a project with a writing partner for a little while and although I am still invested in the project, I need a change of pace. The story I've been working on currently is more of a sci-fi / fantasy mixture with a flavor of super hero influence. It is envisioned as an ongoing serial.

I would really like to expand my range in subject matter and art style, I just don't have a script to do that. I think the perfect way to do this is through a short story, and I think I can help a writer who is looking for some sample work of their writing in a produced comic book. I can pencil, ink, color, print and bind my own books; it's just that whole story thing. You know that whole boring part where the actual content of the book comes from.

Here's a list of the types of subject matter I'd be most interested in:

Romance
Gangster
Something weird or off the beaten path
Sports (actually I would love to do something like this)
Horror


That isn't to say I won't look at any other types of stories. Just send me a PM with a summary of the story or the story itself. I'm new to this site so I'm still getting a handle on how people usually show each other their work.

Also I'd like it if the stories were already done or close to done so that I can just start planning out thumbnails once I pick one.

Hi, I'm an experienced comic scripter who has a few spare comic scripts that are either short stories or could act as one. I've been writing scripts with artist collaboration for a good five years now, and you can find a sample of my work on riversprout.com where you can find my comic "David and the Dark" on a sloppy, newly made site that I'm working on improving. I've also done work for artificialcomix.com that actually are of a "gangstah" nature due to the artist's personal interest in such a genre, the site is impossible to navigate for some reason but you can find my work at http://www.artificialcomix.com/jayandth ... deshow.htm and http://www.artificialcomix.com/myheadache/Slideshow.htm. I've been particularly active recently, with several short comics in progress as well as a graphic novel I'm working on, but sadly since they are not complete I don't feel comfortable showing them as of yet, but if you are interested in my more recent work I can give samples.

I have three comics that I have scripts ready for, the first and more recent is about a post-apocalyptic scenario where a growing facility for "the perfect child" is still cranking out "the perfect child" decades after the "responsible parent" died out. There are three versions of the concept, called Vernal, due to the fact that the artist I was working with wasn't very clear on what he wanted, but I feel all three scripts are pretty decent.

The second script is actually a twenty page collections of short stories called "Accumulus" about a young man and his talking cloud. The stories are whimisical and cute, revolving around the newborn's cloud curiosity about the world around him, and is inspired by newspaper comics such as calvin and hobbes and the peanuts, though the world is significantly more vivid and layered.

The third script revolves around a teenager who is shot while taking her SATs. Upon landing on heaven she finds that she hasn't done enough "good deeds" and therefore has to hold down the job of being a guardian angel. Sure the concept is simple, but the piece is very visual, with the journey to heaven being presented as a "milky way" of beds floating into space and questions about the afterlife answered as the teenage girl is met by her long dead toddler cousin, having grown up in paradise.

All three concepts have scripts finished, though the last two are designed to be able to continue (but still can work as self contained pieces. ‘The Earthly Comedy’ is a three-panel comic strip about school life; a comedic slice of life piece with occasional thought-provoking moments. The title suggests an epic scope (an allusion to Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’) but the story will mostly stay within the bounds of the school environment. Everything seems important in school, from grades to relationships. In a way, it is life condensed within a building.

The main cast of characters includes…

Henry: The deadpan, dry-witted, sarcastic voice of reason. Kind of a young Neil Gaiman in terms of appearance: dark, messy hair, usually in a t-shirt and leather jacket.

Raoul: The laid-back philosopher of the bunch. He is a tall, skinny, bald hippy-type who almost exclusively wears Hawaiian shirts and shorts.

Bob: The hopeless victim of life’s cruel twists and turns. He is a bespectacled, short, tidy student; always in a shirt and tie.

Mary: Cute and innocent-looking with a character to match; somewhat on the naïve side.


This would be a small little ongoing project we could do - maybe a strip per week? The comic could be either black and white or mono-colored (I can e-mail you an example to show you what I mean) to make it easier and less time-consuming for you. I have a bunch of scripts ready but what I will attempt on a weekly basis is keep myself up-to-date with news around the world and try to incorporate some interesting ones. Might as well take a stab at satire.
