Comic company seeking penciler/inker for established project

Post by Brian Menard »

We are looking for an artist who can produce quality sequential pages in a dependable fashion. For the first few issues, the compensation will be in the form of a back-end percentage (no, that is not the same as working for free) but will be spelled out clearly in a contract and our intent is to change that to a page rate as soon as the company is making money.

The project is an ongoing series and already has a writer, a colorist and a letterer.

The company has already published and sold more than a handful of titles and we're a good place to get your name out there and generate a fan base.

Yeah, sadly if we wanna be accurate, working for a percentage of the profits maybe doesn't means that you're working for free, but it very likely means that you're working for pennies and you'll never be able to get a sum of money that go anywhere near what the artist should have gained if he had a page rate -- obviously, if you're working for a comic as successful as The Walking Dead, things are way different, but that's the exception that happens every 100 years..

@emocort: The company is not a scam and you should be careful what you write in print. You see, I am a Certified Fraud Examiner by day and claiming it's a scam is perilously close to slander. There is nothing fraudulent about the company. The back-end percentage of net sales is explained in detail ... if quality product is developed, then sales will reflect that and we'll do well. Will we be making enough to quit our day jobs? Not initially, but we'll be publishing comics and getting our name and skills out there. I spend a lot of time on this company and don't expect it to put food on my table. Instead, I look at it as an opportunity to do something I love and have published work to my name. If you're so well-known that you can work for the Big Two, good for you and go for it! Otherwise, this is a viable opportunity for someone to get into the industry.

@Reinaldo, your work is very good ... Your Deviant Art page suggests that you're looking for work that;s paid up-front. As I stated in the original post, the project I am advertising for is compensated via a back-end percentage of net sales. One person very tactlessly slammed such a compensation arrangement, but it's all we can offer *at this time*. We are always up-front about that. If you're still interested in working with us, please let me know and I will PM you my email address.
