A noob contemplating on what to do (no money)

Post by Mike Hawk »

I hope this post doesn't come out being too long. Skip to summary if you need to.

Anyway, I have had this story in my head for a couple of years, but about six months ago, I decided that I really wanted to do something with it. When I first thought of it years ago, it was childish and was originally written as a tv show (I was about 11 or 12 at the time).

Now I have developed a lot more serious version of the story and wrote out some of the chapters into a book and a couple of pictures to go along with it. I didn't have to much trouble drawing the pictures, but I never had any experience with editing, and it was taking a while to edit using Pencil 2d (Proof that I know nothing about editing). I also just have trouble drawing things like, a car, spaceship, gun, and other machines compared to people and clothes. I kept writing, but didn't want to waste my time on something that would eventually turn out to be something dry and unoriginal, so I then thought about ways to get my idea noticed.

I eventually thought that webcomics would be a cool to look for help since my story does have action in it. I soon found this website, and it seems that most people here are trustworthy and willing to help. I don't know much about this website, and would really appreciate someone with experience here to help me and be like a co-writer. I would also like someone to draw and edit the comic. I didn't see many people in other threads just post their synopsis, but I don't know how else to get people interested in working with me unless I do so.

Summary:
If you don't want to help, then you can still help me. I want to know if I should do zwol or even websomics to get my story out. And if not, what route should I be taking.

I have a clear vision on what my story should be and can explain it. I wanted to show someone some of the things I have done so I can decide whether or not to continue it. If enough people comment wanting to read a brief synopsis or look at a picture, I guess I could do that. Time is scarce, and it seems like it would take a while for me to draw, learn how to edit, and edit alone. I could also use a co-writer to help me out.

advice

If you can draw it definitely draw. Relying on other people to draw is very difficult if you have no money to pay so if you have the talent use it! And if you need help editing or using programs simply do research and going to respective forums for the programs or the skill set. Also note that webcomics often start with poor art and the art develops as the comic goes on. Don't be afraid to do you own drawing and improve and grow!

What I can advise is to post your idea in its totality (it is indeed the way to go!) and repurpose you post and the title of said post so they know you are an artist looking for a cowriter. Writers are a dime a dozen and you'll be guaranteed to find at least one. Just remember to before you do this post some of your art online so the writer knows what he or she is getting into. But writers are often desperate! If the writer has a chance to work he or she will take it as long as you are upfront about your story and show your art. Just use your advantage to pick a writer who is best for your project.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the advice. I even took a look at some other comics like lightbringer, and the art on that was indeed terrible at first. Thanks!
