Hey,
My name is Malcolm. I'm an aspiring comics creator. I've written and got made a few short 3-7 page comics and now I'm looking to step up my game.
I'm looking for a few artists who may want to work on developing some Creator Owned projects that would hopefully be pitched to publishers. I've got a few scripts for intended Comic book mini-series (between 4-6 issues per intended project) that I've been working on independently for which I'm ready to bring artists on board. And so, if any of the following projects sound appealing to you and your artistic sensibilites, I hope to hear from you.
Right now, ideally, you'd only attach yourself to drawing 6-8 pages + a cover and agree to work on the project in the event it gets picked up by a publisher.
The first issues for the following projects have been written and the rest of of the story has been outlined for each project.
The projects:
Momma Jones (working title) -- This is a story inspired by 70's Grindhouse films and takes inspiration from the explotation subgenre of "Rape and Revenge" (think of the films "I Spit on Your Grave" and "Last House on the Left). After waking up in a grimmy bathroom with her unborn baby ripped out of her body, Rez Jones goes on a warpath of revenge and redemption to find and save her baby -- from the baby's father -- Lance Ryzner, a B-List actor turned overzealous cult leader -- who plans on sacrificing the kid to the devil in exchange for immortality on earth. The whole series is outlined. First issue is written. I envision this story being a 4 issue mini that is close ended.
Point of No Return -- This is a story about a crew on a spaceship that starts mysteriously being killed off one by one just after they reach the point of no return on their mission to travel to "Earth 2.0." Think of this story as being a cross between "Caliban (Garth Ennis comic)", "Sunshine (Danny Boyle film)" and "And Then There Were None" (Classic Agatha Christie novel). 5 issue mini series.
"The Only Living Boy Who Matters" -- I had an artist circling this before bailing recently. This is a story about an autistic teenager named Alcide, whose life is turned upside down when the big sister who has been looking after him his entire life is revealed to be his abducter. (The "sister" having snatched the boy when he was an infant). With his entire world shattering before his eyes, the teenager befriends a local outcast, a girl named Stevie, and the two go on the run from all of their problems. The first issue is written. Think of this as "We Can Never Go Home" meets "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime." 5 issue mini-series.
"Arno Longmire" -- This story is set in Post WWII New York and follows a drug addicted detective, traumatized by his experiences in the war, who forms an unholy alliance with the Nazi doctor who experimented on during the war -- and supplying him with the drug that is keeping him alive -- when a Serial Killer starts stalking the streets hunting Nazis in hiding. This one's Noir-y... it's basically "Hourman" meets "Criminal Macabre" (without the monster elements). 6 issue mini-series.
"Rick Law is a Lawyer" -- This is my take on a superhero story. It's about an ambulance chasing lawyer, who specilizes in suing superheroes so that he can get them to collect a little more than "Superhero Collateral Damage" insurance covers, who wakes up from a bender with superpowers of his own and a former Batman-like hero hellbent on destroying his life. This is basically "Better Call Saul" meets "Superheroes." 5 issue mini-series.
"The Summer of Sin" -- The story is set in the summer of 1969 and follows a group of friends who, having just graduated from High School, set out to enjoy their summer before heading off the college, work, and/or the army who get caught up in the world of sexs, drugs, orgies, biker gangs, perverts, and murder. This is a deconstruction of the Summer Beach Party genre. Consider it like "Criminal: Last of the Innocent" meets "Teen Beach Movie." 5 issue mini-series.
Again, the first issue of each of the listed projects is complete and I can send the scripts to anyone who is interested with coming on board as an artist.
Unfortunately, and I know this is a deal breaker for some, these projects are NON-PAID and any money will come from back end deals and profit sharing. Sadly, I'm not in a position to pay people, but I will give any perspective artist a sizeable share of the rights to the project to them in exchange for their early, UNPAID, work. The money I've allocated to these projects is currently designated to go towards paying colorists/letterers. So unless you can color and edit your own work, I can't pay at this point and I AM SORRY about that. I feel like a dick typing it but it's the truth.
I'm looking for artists who want to get into creator owned comics and are okay with taking on a little risk. I also DO NOT expect any artist to fully draw the first issue at this point. I'm looking for artists willing to draw up to 8 pages and a cover to do pitches.
My e-mail is biohazard.quantum@gmail.com -- E-mail me if this offer sounds intriguing to you with the script you're interested in and I'll send you the script and we can start talking about the further details of the project for there.

There is? I had no idea. It's a working title and it'll likely change if the project ever sees the light of day.naffslack wrote:Just making you aware that there's already a comic called The Only Living Boy.
Also... I'm still looking for collaborators. Some cool samples so far, but still looking.
So don't be afraid to send me an e-mail, I'm looking for anyone with any experience level.

I' curious, why would you put money away for color and letters and not for the penciled work? It just seems to me that you would want to secure artwork so that you have something to show and something for others to go on.
