Hello everybody. I'm new here.
I've been working on a comic for some time, and have just started putting up pages. My question is, how do I get exposure? I haven't gotten any comments, except from friends(usually given in person), so how do I know anybody's reading it?
Anywho, if you're interested, it's at http://polychrome.keenspace.com
A comic I've been working on.

and this very message board if you dig around a bit.
Log in to your account on Keenspace.com and check your Logs. If you need a breakdown of what those logs mean, try this page:I haven't gotten any comments, except from friends(usually given in person), so how do I know anybody's reading it?

Hope that helps you out.

Comments also need to be solicited. The majority of people tend not to send emails (or post on message boards) unless you ask them in a very outright fashion. For example, saying "comments are welcome" on your main page may not be enough- something like "nobody writes to me! Please let me know what you think!" will get a better response (even though it sounds like you're begging. Which you are. But you shouldn't let that bother you).
Good morning! That's a nice tnetennba.

Well, you could post a direct link to the strip http://polychrome.keenspace.com/C1TITLE.html instead of making us click through three other pages to get there.
It looks well-drawn, but the pages load so slowly that I didn't have the patience to continue.

Load time is the curse of the web...
350 K seems fairly reasonable for a JPEG of that size and texture, although I think that tweaking could reduce it a bit. Also, I bet that the images are just as vivid and detailed at half their current height and width.
Banner ads never help matters.
The art was intriguing, but I'll have to check it out from work (where I have a better connection) before I can really comment on the story.
Keep goin'!

Actually I think for an image of that size and texture, 350K is pretty extreme.
If you compress it too much, you do lose detail. Since the images are so big I'm not going to inline them, but click here for a comparison.
The thing I notice there is that the rain is noticeably blurred in the lower-quality picture, but I bet there's a compromise size that looks reasonable (and I'm not sure that the blurrier rain necessarily lacks merit anyway). Cutting the size in half in each dimension should have a similar result.

about getting comments for your online comic:
i know exactly what you mean... the funny thing is that we are not really in it for the cash (though i sure would love some cash...). the comments are the cash for our egos, which is not the only thing, but a major thing, that makes us want to have our sites up in the first place. you would think that offering something for free on the net would at least draw in a few comments, good or bad...
anyhow, good luck to us both!
all i can do now, personally, is keep improving on the site, try to get it listed on search engines, and hope to god that some more popular sites think that i am cool enough to link to.... the theory i am currently testing out is the one that says that if your site is cool enough, and you are keen enough to list links to the right people, hopefully they will link back to you. i haven't gotten my link section made, yet, so i don't know what will happen... chances are that no one will give a good god damn, though...
