Artists: Let's be great together

Post by tacocat »

Hello all,

I want to write comics. That is my life's mission statement. Marvel and DC ruled my life at a young age and since then my love of sequential art has expanded and evolved. My goal set me along a path of fiction prose, which I studied in college, but I want to refocus on comics while the ideas are fresh.

As you probably can guess by my post- I'm not a great artist. I drew a lot as a kid but could never refine my style to fit the stories I wanted to tell. So my position is this...
I am in search of a budding and developing artist for collaboration in a comic book or graphic novel project that would eventually be prepared for submission.

I have big dreams but little means; I am the prototypical "starving artist" story. In the immediate I'm not interested in money, just success and breaking into the industry so I won't really be addressing it unless a third party does. That is why I am looking for a young or developing artist because I do not expect some established be engaged by a unfunded endeavor. (Though if you are interested in charity...)

I am ready to roll on a project ASAP. There are two concepts I have developed already, one more mature than the other, but am totally open to collaboration on a different idea. Hopefully I am portraying my seriousness and passion for my dreams and hopefully I inspire an artist to want to work with me. I know there are a lot of potential writing partners out there.

I can be reached through a PM or email. I can definitely provide some writing samples to show my ability including some scripts for the aforementioned ideas. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from someone!

8 months later...

So, after many days of writing, researching and multiple emails I find myself at a different, yet similar position.

Basically, I was on my way to producing a webcomic but my artist had to drop out of the project unexpectedly. I have a domain name, a web guy on standby and multiple pages written. But no art. I've invested time in this and want to see it through.

I'm looking for an artist, of any level, to collaborate on this project. There is much to talk about about the story itself, but I will reveal that it's basic premise involves zombies.

I am very eager to start, and I know there are artists out there who want to put something legitimate together. If you have any interest at all in this project please contact me. There is much to discuss.

Something I forgot:

I've recently noticed artists reaching out on other forums/places (like DW) and asking writers to make their work more accessible. Basically, you (artists) need to know if the writer is viable to work with, or if he's just some goon with a vague dream.

I'm working on the website for my work(see above), but I should mention that I review comics at www.comicsbulletin.com. (Search my last name). While this isn't the most prestigious comics job in the world it does show that I can make deadlines, work independently and in collaboration and that I PRODUCE consistently.

In addition I have a 17 page short story script that I use to demonstrate my style and if the artist is interested, have a test project to see if our methods mesh. Contact me to read it.

Also, a few artists have contacted me for their own projects. That's perfectly fine, I'm eager to work on whatever YOU'RE excited about, even if I have the zombie webcomic in development.
