If you're still looking around, I'm a writer, having just finished the script for my first 20 page comic. I've got about three more in mind that I'd like to start on as well. PM me if you'd like to see it, or want a synopsis of this and my other stories.

If you like my work, then maybe we can talk a little more and see if I'm the right fit for your organization, and if your organization is the right fit for me.

Thanks!

Hello everybody!

My name is Quentin and I'm a student in a Creative Writing course. I'm still on the road to a degree but half-way there! I came across this forum as a "Writer looking for an Artist". When I saw this thread and read through it, I was so happy to see a committed mind behind his project and those who are looking to join the team.

With that said, I would like to come aboard as a writer, should that position still be available. I have the beginnings of a story done and plenty of more notes to progress along. As of now I'm writing a side project for a friend but I'm flexible.

In addition, I got a great platform that we would be able to use in order to collaborate with one another and all get on the same page. I hope to be a part of the team. I'll go ahead and add the Facebook page.

I wish I could delete the above spam, but I can't^^^

In the meantime, we're still working on the website. I've got 2 styles of php forums that I like, but I want to get feedback from you guys since it's YOU who will be using it to find work, apply for jobs, etc.

Please do me a favor and tell me which of these 2 forum styles you like the most. Please keep in mind that, until I commit to one, they will have banner ads, etc. Just ignore the ads. Also, keep in mind that we still haven't worked out an official logo yet, so these are just showing temporary place fillers.

Sean,

I like the first one better, with each book title listed one beneath the other instead of the design where they are all listed on the same line.

hi...

my name is michael kennedy

from what you described in your forum i would be more than happy to help in the project you are running.i however am aged 18 in the United Kingdom but my talent and ambition may be of use.work wise,i can provide my own balck and white inked work for colouring aswell as covers and paintings for whatever you need.in terms of portfolio type stuff,i am currently archiving my work for websites etc, but for reference my comic art style is similar to:

mike perkins

michael lark

alex maleev
and my general illustration style is similar to :

drew struzan

jaques monory

dave mckean (covers)

it'll about a fortnight to get some images of my own work as i am currently swamped in exams.Fee wise, i am currently new to the game and with submissions being prepared for 2000ad and CLint magazine i am also looking for smaller publishers as my main focus for experience over money.so i will work for a very small fee depending on the project at hand.

i look forward to hearing from you

regards Michael Kennedy.

I’m kind split between these two styles. I like the second one more because, in my opinion, it seems better in organizing posts, and they are easier to read. On the other hand, I like the first site more because it, just like Sgorgan mentioned, has the books listed underneath the “Our Books” Column, which makes it very easy to see the current priorities or works in progress.

I like the clean look and smaller size of the black/gray forums. BUT, while I was trying to work with them, I could NOT get the navigation bars to move to the left side. If you look, the "Home" link is on the upper right of the page. Whenever you go to a forum and click on a link, you naturally look to the upper left to return to the main page, but on this style it forces users to look to the upper right.

More importantly, if you POST a thread on that style of forum, it's not nearly as flexible as the blue forum. It's also a weird background color that makes reading your own posts difficult as you write them, and I can't seem to change that, either. I can change the forum itself, but I can't change the posts.

But even if I could fix those 2 things, there is one thing that the blue one has that sets it apart: it has live chat.

If you go to the bottom of the page on the blue one, you can see that anyone who is currently logged into the forum can chat live with the other users. This will be great for building a project like Charitable Press.

So I guess the better question is: is the blue forum good enough and easy enough on the eyes to make it the one? I don't know if it is. I might end up trying to heavily modify a phpBB forum from the normal blue and gray to a style that is similar to the black and gray test forum. But only if I can put the nav bar in the upper left or upper center and get chat functioning. Those are the keys.

Yeah, I've got 2 artists working on it....that was just a filler. I can't remember if I mentioned that here or on Facebook, but I said it somewhere. That logo is bunk.

Update: We are still bringing in new work and new talent. The support that you all have shown means a great deal to me and I appreciate it more than you could know.

The following projects are underway:

NUMB
Overcast Monday
The Overlord
Hell's Janitor
The Redemption Project
Steel Horse
The Time Detective (subject to new title)
Little Orphan Angry

All of these are done by individual Creative Teams, so no two books will look the same. The forums should jump off in about a week, and I encourage all of you to join them as soon as they are up and running. The website itself will be a simple text-based homepage that will give some insights into where Charitable Press is headed. The actual website won't be fully operation until the fall. The forums, however, will be finalized in a matter of days and you will be able to post your specialty in individualized sections (writers, pencils, inkers, colorists, letterers, etc)

As for the plans beyond that, we will be touring the convention circuit in 2013, so it is to everyone's advantage to finalize your product so that YOU can sit at our publisher's booth and promote your own book(s). I believe that is a dream we all share, and it is very possible that some of the titles you see above will flounder during the creative process and YOUR book can take its place. Better yet, they'll all get made and we'll immediately have a substantial market presence that you can be a part of.

Thanks again for the support! Message me if you're a creator and we can discuss the future.

Collaboration

Where are you located in Ohio ?
Cleveland here.I have done some screenwriting and have a few decent ideas regarding a graphic novel or comic series.I had initially planned on doing a screenplay, but thought doing a comic would be alot of fun.I too had been kicking it around since before the Clinton era.The great thing about growing up during the Reagan era/cold war,and the 80's in general was the fact that there was plenty of great films, comics, toys, and books for a young kid to build fantastic places in his head.As well as plenty of dynamic people to inspire, and motivate me to pick up the pen.

I have plenty of ORIGINAL material that could go a long way.I do nothing cookie cutter, and have 30+ years of Sci-fi,horror,and comic experience to boot.Let me know what you are leaning towards as far as a storyline goes,or ideas in the works.I would even be willing to use some of the characters I have developed over the years, since they are wowing nobody collecting dust in my head and in my filing cabinet. The world deserves their mojo ! Comics would be the perfect medium to breath some life into them.

If you are close enough I'd be willing to go for a ride.If you are interested, you can even call me directly. We can see if there is a potential fit.I currently am in the process of co producing a film I had written a script for,but that doesn't take up alot of my time.I can devote some hours to any project that is worthwhile.Hell I would completely switch gears if the project was awesome enough.

Thank you for your consideration, even if we do not work together..... good luck with your project.I think the charity aspect of it is worthy of much praise and respect.

Hey TG, I grew outside of Akron and live near the Football Hall of Fame now. I'd love to have some local help, especially in regards to the organization of the business/company itself. I'm flying solo in regards to that at this point.

For the scripts in your head, by next week we should have our forums up and running. That will make life easier on all of us and you'll be able to post so that we can match you up with artists. As time goes by, we'll have more books being created and we will ALWAYS need new ideas and new characters. It's funny that you mention the 80s and film, because those are two HUGE influences in my own work.

That's the goal. I don't know WHEN, but I'd really like to make it in 2013. I hope we're successful enough to attend San Diego and San Fran, but if we can only make it to one, it'll probably be San Diego.

In a perfect world, our books will explode in popularity to the point where we can attend San Diego, San Fran, Portland, and Seattle. We shall see.

Hey guys,

I like what you're doing and hopefully I can be a part of it. I am working on a comic book script idea that I have. I was planning to do the story and art work all by myself but that may prove to daunting of a task. I have no actual experience working in comics, just something I have always been interested in doing and now I have the time to pursue that reality in some way. I'm not the best artist, got rusty over the years but I think I can be a good writer.

I'm out in San Diego by the way.

Best of luck.

I would love to be involved as a writer but that's currently impossible for me. I do have a completed synopsis for a solid superhero comic character that I just developed and would love to sell out the the character (with the synopsis included) if anyone is interested. The superhero character is a high class character (spider-man/Iron-man class and not black panther or green lantern class). Anyone interested in acquiring rights to the character or wishes to request more information should contact me.

Just a few questions -- Are the new writers, artist, etc. going to be working on those listed underway projects? Or are the new staff members going to be working on other scripts not yet listed after everything is settled? I just wanted to check as I was working on a few of my in-progress original scripts and exploring/ creating ideas for those stories listed as underway too. If it’s possible, and if new staff members are working on those underway projects, can we get a list of those that need certain positions filled?

One of them, Hell’s Janitor, stood out to me, and if it needs a writer, I would love to take up the task. But I am not trying to get ahead of everything and myself because as you mentioned, one of those storylines are “already very far along, numbering over 100 completed pages”. And I don’t know which one is that, and neither do I know if the new staff will be working on those. Heh, I’ve had a lot of free time lately as my electricity has been out due to the recent tropical storm. Luckily, it just turned back on today, but I am glad that I have had much time to write and flesh out script ideas.

Think of Charitable Press as more of a "collective" than, say, Marvel or DC.

The titles listed above are all being handled by the creators of each book, though some of them are still in need of certain skill sets to form the Creative Team for each book. Hell's Janitor is my storyline, so I am actually handling the scripting and art direction for it. The only thing I need for it is a colorist at this point, etc.

To make a long story short, it will be much easier to get in touch with the Creative Teams of each book once our forums are up. Each book will have its own sub-forum dedicated to it.

In the meantime, your best chance to get IMMEDIATE work is to flesh out your own stories and get them drawn up. That will also be easier once our forums go live. I can't wait...hopefully we're less than a week away.

Hi there, Johnny. We definitely need some stories that are kid-oriented. As for what's in it for you, the best thing I can tell you is that you'll be making the world a better place directly through your efforts. In return, the unique business model that CP employs as the only full-time non-profit comic book publisher will provide your book with a high level of publicity; publicity that will automatically have a broad reach and a positive vibe, simply because of what we do.

The quality of your story will only serve to make that publicity and impact even greater.
