I wonder if having an online portfolio helps?

If anyone has experience with this issue (or has a source about it), please post it here, as i'm currently working on a project and don't know if it's worth the hassle

Aaarrgh...it's making self publishing sound like a plan B in case getting a job at a respectable big corporation comics publisher fails. Who cares about the big guys, it's with the independants, the self publishers and on the web it's happening.

Yup- I agree with you on that one. Not to knock the quality of the big publishers (that's an entire other discussion!) but I've become far more excited by smaller, self-published works than most corporate-published or corporate-owned work.
