Writer Seeking Artist for Epic Post-Apocalyptic Comic (Paid)

Post by sgrogan »

Out of all the things I have written (novels, screenplays, etc.), this is definitely my magnum opus. Yes, it does involve a zombie element, but that is prevalent only in the first 20-25% of the story. After that, it take on a whole new approach.

THE REDEMPTION PROJECT

In the future, the majority of the world has been ravaged by a man-made zombie virus (created as a biological weapon during the Vietnam War). The only country that has managed to contain it is America. They did this by constructing a wall that runs the entire length of the West Coast. (During construction, the infected were held at bay by lethal force.) Now the West Coast has become a lawless no man's land.

Many years later, in the city of Springvale, CA, a child is born that seems to be immune to the virus. A group of survivors (led by a badass killing machine babe named Molly) decide it's up to them to not only prove the child is immune, but then figure out how to develop an antidote from his blood. This means they need a geneticist, a lab to test the child's blood, and a way to produce and distribute the antidote.

But in a crazy, zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic world, how the hell can they accomplish ANY of that?

*************************************************************
I know people are sickened by the thought of zombies these days, but I tried to make this stand out from the usual material out there.

First of all, I did with zombie movies what Tarantino did with kung fu films and KILL BILL: I took my favorite elements from past stories (mostly Romero films) and throw it back at the audience in a way where it pays homage AND allows my own writing voice to shine through.

Second, I compare the tale to a Dungeons and Dragons campaign where the only opponents are zombies and other humans. Moll and her team represent your average D&D troupe: you have different "races" (D&D had elves and dwarves and so on...this group has white, black, Hispanic and so on) and character classes (Molly would be the "warrior," her second in command Doc is the equivalent of a "cleric," and so on).

I hope you can see how this would stand out from the other zombie stories flooding the market ever since WALKING DEAD hit it big. Please contact me if you are interested.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a LONG story. In theory I would prefer to have someone that would like to hang in for the long haul. Also, at the moment I don't have the biggest budget in the world, so I might reach out to you sporadically (IE whenever I have some money).

i think people are sick of zombie stories because they are all the same, they take place in america, in one of the southern states and everyone is a crazy redneck and they try to out-redneck each other with an endless amount of guns and ammo. why not change the location and get rid of the guns and ammo and make it actually hard for the people, in TWD they seem to have it sooooo easy compared to most of the stories in WWZ. the best one of all is the japanese dude who gets the coolest weapon of all (i didnt write what weapon he gets in case its a plot spoiler for anyone reading.

or if you look at movies like "the dead (1 and 2)" taking place in africa and india, you have a totally new and untapped locations that have never been done before. and because its unfamiliar to most of the viewers/readers they cant predict what will happen because there is no guns and ammo store or walmart that they can go into to get new supplies because those stores dont exist in these locations and same with where the characters can hide, so this builds way more suspense because the audience doesnt know what will happen or how the characters are going to get out of the mess they are currently in.

I don't see how you can possibly know my story is like all those others with rednecks and guns and ammo stores...without having read a single word. Needless to say, I've had MANY zombie fans read the story and told me they hope I can get it published because it is like NOTHING out there at the moment.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. Now, the search continues.

i didnt say your story was like the rest, but based on what you have said, your story does take place in a southern state and in america, and theres a child immune to the virus, thats setting you up to follow so many others, most recently would be " the last of us", sure they werent zombies but they might as well have.

in terms of who has read your script, what qualifications do they have in script review? i mean, were they your friends and family who will tell you its good because they dont want to hurt your feelings or were they people who dont know you and and can give you an unbiased opinion? if they are zombie fans thats a good start, but do they they like EVERYTHING? or can they be objective? do those people actually do good writing themselves and do they know how scenes work and camera angles etc? Now it is good to get people who dont know any of the above to read it because they will be honest if its borning or not but trying to get a semi-professional review of your work to point out any and all problems will be more beneficial to your work. mainly because if your book goes live and doesnt sell, you wont know until its too late, best to work out the problems ahead of time.
