[Paid] Looking for artist for graphic novel [Closed]
Hey everyone. I know I usually post looking for projects that don't have money involved but this time is different. I have already been hired to write a graphic novel script and, given that the artist we had before had other commitments, we are looking for someone new. The comic is called "Bikini Avengers" and is about a trio of girl freedom fighters fighting against Islamic radicals in a terrorist controlled United States. However a few things to say first, the comic is more Red Dawn then V for Vendetta. The story has a pulp, slightly humorous feel reminiscent of 80's and 90's action movies like Top Gun. Also despite obvious silliness the story will have a seriousness on par with Red Dawn with the characters genuinely feeling pain and sadness at the sad state of America as well as their own need to belong.
Another thing to state outright, this is of course a sensitive project. What with the attack and murder of French cartoonists and the growing threat of terrorist incursion in my home country of the USA, doing a comic about terrorists is obviously a risk. That said, the buyers and I are steadfast on treating this as cautiously as possible, with the terrorists not being consistent with any current terrorist group and it being explicitly stated and proven that the enemy threat is not Muslims in general but a group of radical muslims. Also the current intent is to make the enemies of multiple races rather than explicitly those of arabic decent for the same reason.
Now that all the disclaimers are out of the way, the meat of the project, the girls. Our "Bikinis" are multi-racial as well, foster sisters who were born in America but came to Australia as young girls, returning to the US to take the country back for the people. The story I have written so far details a first graphic novel detailing their journey from Australia to the last American state, Texas, which is now broken up into a five state country known simply as "The Five States." They are apart of an initiative to send young soldiers in the US as guerillas.
The girls go as follows.
Nylah- A girl of African decent who starts the journey on her own initiative. She is somewhat of a loner, feeling alienated from other Australians due to her racial heritage, and thus seeks to go to American to get in touch with her roots and to find herself. Her speciality is heavy weapons, particularly heavy machine guns and explosives.
Juanita- A girl of hispanic decent who's the leader of the group. A bubbly, bright, and energetic girl, Juanita is everyone's little sister and it is hard to be in the same room as her without cracking a smirk. She is the tactical officer of the team, formulating its plans and leading them into combat. She uses rifles but is also the team's driver.
Aurora- A girl of Caucasian decent, her demeanor is as cold as ice. She's snarky, aggressive, and always the first to point out when something isn't all it's cracked up to be. She's the beauty of the group, always attracting someone's eye if not grabbing it with a pose. Although somewhat insensitive she is close with her sisters and is one with their cause. She is an expert with a sniper rifle.
Something to mention, a common directive passed down to the buyer to me is to make things "sexy." Well I am a feminist at heart, so is there some disconnect? Not really. In my mind there are two kinds of sexy, objectification and empowerment. We're searching for an artist with a love of the female form as well as a respect for that form, a style that shows strong and independent woman even when the script calls for them to be nude. So we want some good old attractive girl power!
Another thing to mention, the turn around for the project is a little quick. The buyer's would prefer that the completion time for the project to be 3 to 6 months. The price on the project is 100$ for a completed page, and yes this project would give a very decent advance (I myself can vouch for this). The page count would be 98 pages which are currently spread out into four issues. We can negotiate a longer development period but this is our current preference.
The script itself is in development, but is nearing the completion of its first draft. We have script samples and concept art that are available for viewing upon request and of course I am available to answer any questions you might have about the project.
The buyers have a strong preference for a painterly style such as
http://magion02.deviantart.com/gallery/
but we are open to all comers if you can deliver us quality art.
Also we are looking for colored pieces and an artist who can pencil, ink, color, and letter is preferred. However if your skill is exceptional we are open to putting teams together. Remember that when you submit you make sure you have comic samples, else you may not be fully considered.
Also note that someone who is a good communicator is also strongly preferred. It is not a given, but I would like to have an artist who can through the net or the phone participate for at least one hour a week in a chat session. If that isn't possible and the art is good however we may be willing to make an exception.
You can reach me at robert-finch@comcast.net. Please put in your subject line "Bikini Avengers" so I know the reason for your e-mail.
We look forward to your inquiries.
Sincerely,
Robert Finch/Ruyei

Hi Robert

An addendum
At this point I have to say that for an artist posting black and whites you're a little out of luck. Unless the b & w is incredibly fine there's going to be a strong bias to artists who color their own work.
Thanks so much for your applications so far everyone. I will as always be attempting to respond to everyone within 24 hours, but as we get more of a load of people interested it may take me longer to respond.
Sincerely,
Robert Finch

Bikini Avengers
Hello,
My Name is also Daniel, Daniel Becker. I'll send you an email shortly, but here is also a link to my website (http://invisible-ink-studio.com/work/).
Ahhh, the ol' bikini-bombshells-save-America trick. Kid's will love it! And why is it that Texas always seems to be the survival state? I'd imagine Montana or Idaho really, much more defensible space.
But anyways. Thanks for the consideration, and good luck with the project!
D Becker~

Final Decision
Well Texas was chosen for two reasons, one they seem to be prepared for it what with their militias and secret hordes, and for another they were their own country for a while and are prepared to be so again.
Anywho, we've made our final decision on the artist for Bikini Avengers. Of the 27 who made the second round expect e-mails concerning whether you made it or not. If you somehow fell through the cracks and do not receive an e-mail you can clarify with me, but note that if you don't receive an e-mail you were most likely not accepted. Sorry about that, we received more than 75 e-mails so it's a little hard to keep track of everyone, but we've received so many wonderful submissions and thank you for everyone who applied.
Sincerely,
Robert Finch

not so final decision
For everyone waiting for responses note that the artist we chose decided to go another direction suddenly. We are still looking through our applicants and making our final decision.
