Working on my own comic book vigilante universe. It has around 50 characters so far and it's still growing. This project will eventually need many different artists and writers to complete but I am looking to meet artists in my area to begin collaborating with. I'm looking for a partner not an employee. Someone who can bring their own creative ideas to the story as well as the art but mainly just a friend tht we can collaborate together and start a friendship. I feel that 2 people would be able to work together much easier if they have an actual friendship not just a partnership.
This project will not be able to be completed any time soon but I would like to take steps in the right direction. I want a beginning artist so we can both grow together and create something we both are passionate about. If you are interested, please Contact me.
I am in the Charlotte NC area and would like someone that I could meet in person but it's not required.

Advice
Tip, start small. Perhaps write some scripts, get feedback and refine them, and if you have a job maybe pay for the production of an 8 page short comic. At least that's the best way to go.
It is possible to make friends through collaboration and form enough of a relationship with an artist to get them to allow you to do "free" jobs with them but, not only do these situations rely on the artist having significant say so in what he feels like doing and when he does it but...well...it can take years (and it took me years) to find collaborators like that. In the meantime I've gone through about 15-20 different relationships, many of them ending badly. It's very frustrating but I have gotten to the point that I have been able to find paid work...but that's a different story.
So my advice...save up some money or make a short comic...x that...several short comics and make yourself available. Most long term collaboration where money isn't involved start when the artist already knows what sort of writer you are, likes it, and is willing to take a chance on you. But yeah, artists generally don't go long term unless they have a REALLY good reason, usually payment or fame, even if they know and like you.
As for finding communities, webcomic underdogs has a good amateur community and I'm sure sites where amateurs gather like mangaraiders, drunkduck, and smackjeeves could be good starts. Zwol isn't much of a community, mostly a gathering of want ads
. You can meet people here but you won't exactly see people gathering for conversations in the forums too often.
