Godman wrote:Only the stupid and desperate will fund you with this kind of attitude.

Other than that. If youre here, requesting something.
If youre the one asking, having basic demands make no sense.

Like contact. We're not desperate to help you so we wont bother contacting you that way if we dont know what exactly we're getting into. Besides. We dont wish to waste our time.

Either you lay out all the details here, or keep waiting for some imaginary rich guy to fund you.

If your comic doesnt work out, remember youre the one holding it back.
You cant blame the world.
Only the delusional can.
This is the most remarkable set of comments yet.

FYI I am not asking anyone calling himself "Godman" to do anything, apart from find some other thread to derail.

Thank You.

LOL im not derailing, Im telling you why everyone on this thread seems to have a problem with you.

and you're so sensitive,
You do realise that your responses by itself is defying the basic purpose of this thread.

As a creator yourself you should know how most creators are, especially those looking for jobs. You know someone with an arrogant attitude isn't worth your time, and Im sure you wouldn't invest in something without knowing what exactly you're getting into.

We don't trust you enough to want to pm/ email you since the details above are extremely vague.

All that stands out is how successful, YOU think your comic will be.
If you actually tried to change the tone of asking, instead of just copying and pasting the same thing over and over again, you might get some constructive responses.

Take a step back and look at this thread. You're getting comments, help, advice on how to actually get someone to invest in your comic. You just choose to see it as either useless or completely ignore their comments. Ignoring feedback wont get you anywhere.

Try reflecting a bit.

I asked for NO FEEDBACK.

If you cannot respect that request you will certainly feel aggrieved when I repeat it.

There's an email address provided. It's provided so that anyone who is interested can contact me directly, and furthermore, I will be overjoyed if they read through all of this and are not put off by any of it.

Then I would feel absolutely confident that I've found the right person with whom to share my idea.

So I commend you at least for helping me filter out people easily swayed by false opinion.

EDIT: And I just want to add that every successful work of fiction was created because at least one person thought it would be a success.

Thank You.

I find it interesting that you keep referring to yourself as "us."

Perhaps I'll base an issue entirely upon the shenanigans in this thread :)

You still have yet to get this, so I will spell it out. You don't get to set rules, requirements and conditions in a public forum. Look back over the long list of posts in this section of ZWOL, and you'll see that people asking for clarification is normal. It's what happens.

You will also discover than when something seems a little off, there are more people asking questions, not fewer.

You will also discover that what succeeds is a good pitch, a good idea of what the story is about, what the business plan is, what the ROI is, what the qualifications of the extant contributors are. You have provided none of this, yet expect someone to drop money on you over the people who have much better posts and potential.

You got downvoted to oblivion on Reddit, and publicly chastised for your attitude. You've had numerous people comment on your attitude in this thread. It's not people wanting you to fail, it's not people wanting to steal your ideas, it's not people with a crab mentality. All of these people are not wrong, they are people that for the most part have been trying to give you good advice based on their experience in this industry, and in doing so, you have alienated not one, but two different forums, and this one's friendlier than a box of puppies, so that took some work on your part.

You are torpedoing yourself.

Love the new thread title, even more misleading than the first one.

The title is misleading, It's just a normal comic.

Post by Craigdom »

So, I'm new here. I have the money and am looking to help someone with their goal, in terms of comics.

I clicked on this link and thought maybe this might be something new.
Unfortunately this thread is so misleading.

There was almost no content, just people telling you your attitude stinks and you trying to get them to email you.

Piece of advise, don't post your email out for everyone to see, you might get spammed. Ask them to PM you instead then give it out.

Ill be honest here, based on your responses I can see you lack a strong use of logic. Your arguments have no points. I have the money, but I wouldn't want to invest in something without knowing what it exactly is and If you fail to let the details out on here, then It'll be hard finding anyone. The reason I didn't PM you is simply because you have nothing to show, nothing that captures my attention.

I'll admit, the comic isn't controversial at all. A story that combines everything that has already been done would be labeled as an anthology. Your art isn't worth 2 thousand bucks.

and based on your responses I can guess you'd just ignore these comments and tell me to email you directly. Its like trying to explain something so simple to a narrow minded child. You need to open up if you want someone to invest in you. You may try to come off as someone tough and determined, but it all just shows how desperate you are. Its pathetic, Im not going to give you money to work on a product when I have no way of seeing or reading it.

You're selling a product but need someone to fund you. If you don't have a prototype, or a draft of the entire 1st issue drawn, fully detailed, then you basically have nothing to show. You wont be funded, thats how the world works.

The comments on this thread is actually really helpful to you, you can see it that way if you want to, or you can ignore it and struggle through.

I will not be investing and wasting my time with someone like you and I hope everyone in the forums do the same, unless you change your manner of asking and show us a bit of humility. Then maybe, I might consider.

Thanks for the appraisal.

I have to tell you though, if anyone does read through all of this they'll be scratching their heads wondering "what is going on here".

A guy posts a simple post asking for people interested to contact him via email, and this is the response????

Here's what I'll do. I'll change the title so you feel less threatened and/or don't misinterpret it as hubris. I'll also change the image - as that may also be the cause of alarm for some.

Honestly I don't get the outrage.

I'm not against you or anything, just telling you what is missing, what it is thats preventing you from getting what you want.

I do however hope you add more details to the original post so we could all ignore the comments below and just focus on contacting you.

The post is designed to garner the right kind of interest. It isn't meant to sell the idea. Thus far (unfortunately) it's going as expected, but hopefully there will be a diamond in the rough.

The title "Apocalypse Comics" is just a play on Action Comics, so that AC can be used somewhere along the line as a logo. It doesn't mean the end of the world or anything lol, if that's what's scaring the types attracted to this.

If you are interested in more details demonstrate your interest with an email message.

Thank You.

You wish for someone to invest in your comic. Tell me why it's good. Don't tell me it has the potential of being the most successful comic of all time. Every comic has that potential. For me to wish to email you, I need to know exactly why, what makes it special, the story, the characters, the meaning behind it? If it's a combination of everything, what makes it stand out from the rest?

That's all I need to want to email you.
And that's all most potential investors need to wish to contact you. Your pitch is good, but not detailed enough.

If you really wanted to know you would have contacted me by now instead of posting a litany of false conclusions.

Obviously I have no intention of discussing here anything more than your unjustified reactions.

My request was VERY simple. There is nothing negative in it or disrespectful to anyone. I showcased a page with a title on it and some artwork. I explained what I need and who I appeal to. I offered contact details and asked specifically to contact me there only.

Notice - initially - I restricted what was shown to a single cover. This is what traditionally seals the deal with a purchase: interest. It's an instinctive act: inspection of a piece of artwork and a title and then a decision to pick it up or leave it.

That is the point of my initial post.

Now, if someone does find it interesting then that's a good sign, whether or not they actually send an email. It bodes well in terms of attracting sets of eyes.

However I actually want to get this produced and so the second step required here is for a serious interested party to make inquiries via email.

Surely, what I have posted could not have deserved the comments which followed and I am certain that anyone passing through this thread is going to wonder what caused the exchange.

It's no use posting a bunch of untruths like one of the other posters did a couple of posts back. There are no other forums where I posted anything which offended anyone. The incident on Reddit resulted in the moderator warning two posters who attempted to derail the thread there. I was instructed not to allow feedback at that point.

So please, unless you have no genuine interest here apart from some completely mind boggling reason for wanting to dissuade people... please follow the instructions given.

Thanks

Buddy, we are telling you, there is nothing interesting in your post to make us contact you. I dont know how else to put it. We have no idea what your "original" idea is? By the cover we can assume its a story about time travelling salesmen. You want over $2000 for a cover drawn years ago. you didnt mention whether the script is written and ready to go, you mention you are a proffesional, but give us nothing on your previous works.
Honestly this seems like a scam to me, just like those rsgold and UK kitchen posts

If you're not interested don't post here.

Sorry to be so blunt but that's basic common sense right there.

advice

Valuecomics, I understand that you specifically requested that people respond to you via e-mail. It may sound strange to you that people are responding to you in-forum, this is normal for Zwol.org and it is apart of the prevalent culture here. If something particularly bothers us about a post, we post in forum so we can involve the community in it. The same goes for if a post strikes us particularly positively, we want to share our joy at reading the post with other members of the community. While it may seem strange to you, it is our culture here, and the reason you're getting such hostile comments is that you are unintentionally insulting the way we do things at Zwol and which has helped us build our community. You don't go to Japan and expect a handshake, instead you bow. The same goes here and I assume you are a newcomer and are not familiar with this forum overly much, so I personally will let it slide. For the type of interaction you seem to desire there are other places that function the way you desire, namely business oriented sites focused on bidding wars and presentations (though I don't remember any names off hand as I don't usually frequent such sites, I'm not an investor). But if you post on a forum, particularly Zwol's forum, this is usually what happens for good or ill. The only time that people will generally conform to specific instructions is when they feel pressured to, like when one offers a paid job. At the moment people are generally confused at what you are offering since you don't give much information, and people often judge on Zwol based on initial post (another aspect of our culture). So please excuse us for trying to understand through simultaneously asking questions of you, and the group itself. Remember, you're in a foreign country here. If you don't respect the ways of the locals you can't expect to do business.

This is the best response in the thread and I welcome it.

It may be true that I am unfamiliar with the culture on this forum and for that I can offer contrition, and perhaps consider observing a place for a longer amount of time before contributing.

Perhaps this particular post should be removed and after some time to reflect I can offer one more in line with expectation.

Thanks.

No worries

Post by Ruyei »

As is obvious by all the spambots we don't have an active admin around here, so there's no way your post will be removed. However given a short amount of time your post will sift to the bottom and will no longer be present. This takes at least a week, at most two weeks.

First realize that doing what you are proposing isn't usually what we do here. Mostly artists offer their services, writers look for artists for their projects, and at times colorists and letterers are sought after. But what is common is that if someone requests money...for any reason...they come under intense scrutiny. If an artist offers work they better be pro quality, and if a writer offers work (like myself) he better set himself apart from all the other writers (often first timers) who seek to offer their work for free. It really is fiercely competitive here. Thusly if you want to fund your project you better prove you're worth it, immediately. You must set yourself apart from all the artists who offer rates for custom work (which often the writer will own either fully or as a business partner) by proving us that you're idea is simply better than what most of the writers here can come up with. And you need to do this in forum in your post.

A good title wouldn't hurt, like "[Genre here] comic looking for investor(s)"
Don't wait for us to e-mail you, state your pitch here in its entirety (or short enough to avoid TLDR) or you won't get anywhere near maximum interest. Most of all state what sets your work apart, show comic samples (the best you have available that represent your work) or even better, give us a taste of what you have to offer and link to a professional page with your pitch in its entirety.

Note that the going rate for a black and white page is on average 50$ a page for good work. Check out some of the artists already offering, are you on their level? If not people may not want to invest in you for the equivalent of that price, especially if you go higher.

And even then, investing sounds strange for those who usually buy work, the writers, who usually invest with the intention that their own script will get used. It's worth a shot sure, but note that this is not a forum where we see what your offering and it feels like a step below custom work.

My advise is to go to kickstarter or an equivalent site. That's where most creators go to get their projects funded and you may have more success. I will cease posting in this thread, if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Kickstarter is such a hassle really. That's why I would prefer to find someone who sees something and it just clicks. That's when extraordinary things can happen.

Posting and promoting a book based upon what is dictated through guidelines is the same as crafting something based on a template. You get the same thing over and over again and while that's not bad for all concerned it does stymie creativity and limit the possibilities of a genuinely profound and unique work, of the kind that only comes around by chance or through some set of unusual circumstances or sacrifice.

The goal here is to cut through all the dross and present something that instantly garners attention, and then hold that attention for long enough to engender the kind of wonder and expectation felt as a child reading great serial art books, but to do that for adults.

Gone is the longing to find that for one's self but is replaced with the desire to offer it.

And so, while I will let this thread fall away I will still seek to get funding for this; funding to allow me to put in a total effort with all of the energy and ability available so as to leave something behind in this world for its posterity.

Thanks.

Update.

I'm very much looking forward to more inquiries via email.

Once again I do apologize if this isn't the correct protocol here.
